Beetle Flies
Order: Coleoptera
There are about 350,000 identified species within this order
and many thousands of species that are consumed by fish as they
drown in streams, rivers and lakes around the world. The beetle
patterns represented here are more or less generic patterns that
can imitate a number of different species of insect. On a windy
day you may find fish feeding close to the bank where terrestrial
insects have been blown into the water. Overhanging trees and
grass are a prime spot. If you can see some beetles floating on
the water try and match them with an artificial of similar size
and colour. Approach cautiously and cast up-stream, close to the
bank, allowing you fly to drift over the rising fish. You may
like to animate your beetle with a gentle twitch, but don't drag
the fly causing an un-natural wake.
As part of our range of fly fishing flies we are committed to bring
