Cicada Flies
Order: Hemiptera
Within the order Hemiptera are the family Cicadidae (cicadas)
and Eurymelidae (jassids or leaf hoppers). Both cicadas and jassids
make for fantastic summer dry fly fishing when these insects are
blown onto the water. There are many hundreds of species within
these families and they range from dry desert regions to lush
costal forests in latitudes from tropical to temperate zones.
The summer cicada fishing at Lake Onslow in Otago, South Island
of New Zealand, is famous as thousands of cicadas are blown onto
the lake and become prime trout food. Jassid imitations are an
important fly to have on hand when fishing the Tasmanian highlands
around March and April. Fish jassid imitations like you would
a beetle pattern - mid to late in the afternoon close to banks
and lake margins or in wind lanes.
As part of our range of fly fishing flies we are committed to bring
you a wide selection of
cicada flies. Help us build our stock
