Damsel Flies
Order: Odonata
Damselflies are of the suborder Zygoptera and are smaller and
slimmer than dragonflies, and generally hold their wings together
when resting. Generally damselfly nymphs have slender bodies with
leaf-like gills at the tail end and shades of green and brown
seem to be common. Zygoptera have a wide distribution from tropical
to temperate zones and tolerate poor water conditions. Imitations
of nymphs are often more useful than the adult, although there
are times when fish will aggressively rise to a dry adult - and
this makes for exciting fly fishing!
