Horse Flies
Order: Diptera
From the same order as the Crane fly we have the Family Tabinidae
and are known as march flies or horse flies. These relatively
large flies are diverse and widely spread with about 700 species
in Australia. The larvae are predators that move through stream
beds and margins as well as on land - they are not worth imitating.
The adults, like most flying insects around water, can end up
on the water surface as fish food. Try a general large dry fly
pattern or a March fly specific pattern dead drift.
As part of our range of fly fishing flies we are committed to bring
you a wide selection of
march flies. Help us build our stock
of
marchflies by requesting your favorite patterns.
