Of the 23 families of mayflies there are about 1000 well documented
species found around the world. These are undoubtedly the most
important of insects when fly fishing for trout and many different
patterns are tied to represent the various stages of the Mayfly
lifecycle and the specific local species. The lifecycle of the
Mayfly can be categorized into three stages: Nymphs, Subimagos
(duns), Imagos (spinners).
