Mice & Rat flies
A popular surface imitation for night feeding Bass is the mouse
or rat. These animals occasionally swim across streams and smaller
waters and end up as fish food. Try dropping a mouse imitation
near an undercut bank or overhanging tree and then use a twitchy
retrieve causing some wake and surface disturbance. Don't overdo
the disturbance, but you do want it to look like a mouse has fallen
from some overhang and is now swimming frantically to safety.
Your fly may be mistaken for a frog and will just as readily be
taken by a hungry Bass.
