Made To Order	Del Brown's "Merkin" fly is an outstanding pattern for Permit. You need to be casting the crab close to feeding Permit in the shallow flats. Don't retrieve the fly but give it a twitch or two - this may grab the Permit's attention. If the fish moves past your fly then retrieve and re-cast it to fall in front of the fishes face. The difficulty is that the fly hitting the surface may spook the fish! Setting the hook is done with a smooth strip of the line (not jerking the rod tip up) - if you miss the hook-up let the fly drop to the sand again. You may get a second chance!
